Each level was interesting and different, also the game got better and better as it went on. Rated 5 out of5 byxmassnowmen fromThe most fun I have had in a game Viking Saga gave me the most fun I have had in a TM game. The imagination, fantasy, and really fun and unique tasks made this very special. That said, I bought the sequels New World and Epic Adventure without trying them out like I usually do. The next 2 games are entirely the 'keep the fire burning, dark screen, and frantic tasking'that the first game had just a few in. My least favorite.
So enjoy the first one, and totally do not waste your time and money on the next two. So disappointed. The gameplay is excellent and you can play multiple difficulty settings, including a casual option that allows you to just enjoy the story without a timer. The story is inspired by Northern mythology and stands out as unusually good and original. You play a shipwrecked Viking on a quest to return your father's cursed ring to a midget who lives on top of a huge mountain.
You have to travel across a very large map performing quests to help various villages and towns, and to overcome natural obstacles. The game makes great use of the natural environment to affect your missions as you travel through verdant green areas, forests, rocky mountains, ice and snow storms, and underground caverns. On your journey you also meet a forest druid who is more complicated than he seems. The druid can unlock magical secrets at monolithic runestones and send your pet bear-cub to seek out hidden treasure chests. There are a large number of original ideas used as mission objectives.
Most involve building structures and gathering resources, but there are also magical quests and humorous bonus levels in which the vikings have to farm vegetables, feed hungry cave bears, and capture and pen wild mountain sheep. The interaction with the various village headman and other characters you meet throughout the journey are often very amusing, and the plot takes some interesting unexpected turns later in the game.On the more technical side: The graphics are outstanding and the sound is good. (The music is well-done but a bit goofy by design, but you have the option to turn it off and listen to something else while still leaving the sound effects on.)I loved this game and will keep my eyes out for a sequel. However there is a big difference for me. I'm not very good at chaos and many of those type of games drive me nuts because I can't win the gold. This game can be played UNTIMED.
It's fun because I'm not always trying to beat the clock. You still have to set priorities and I have had a few restarts. There is no violence. The main character is a very likeable, fun guy. The guys dance at the end of each adventure, much like the Royal Envoy characters. If you are hard core, you can play in other modes which considerably up the challenge. It truly is a game for all levels of player.
I don't think you can go wrong on this one. Try it and you will probably buy it! Rated 5 out of5 byAuntyDor fromViking Saga The best TM game I have ever played. I have got loads of BFG,s but this is the only review I have ever written. I really enjoyed this game, the levels were Imaginative and quite diverse and really good fun. What also impressed me was that the developers added unexpected levels that were funny like the bizarre Father Christmas level or the catching sheep level.
This all added to the overall fun of the game. The story was quite good and logical, the levels were Challenging enough to be stretching but not impossible. There are three levels of difficulty and I played the normal level which is for experienced casual game players. Each level was interesting and different, also the game got better and better as it went on. Some TM games developers seem to get bored with their own game and the levels don't really go anywhere or change that much, I am sorry that I have finished all 40 levels and hope that a new Viking Saga will be brought out soon. I found this game to be quite different from the other TM games I have bought, as sometimes half way through other games I have got bored and given up. In this case I had to be dragged off this game kicking and screaming constantly, until I had finished all the levels.
I would recommend this game. Rated 5 out of5 bybeltie fromReally Enoyed This One Really enjoyed this game. Beautiful graphics, interesting story line, challenging levels. Some levels really required strategy. Had to play many at least once, before going for gold, to see what the requirements were. This game also has 'plan ahead' ability. Did not like the 'My Kingdom for the Princess' series at all because they don't allow you to click ahead. I will not play any TM game like that. Just not enjoyable for me.This game also has 3 difficulty levels which gives good replay value.I really enjoyed it!
Hope they come out with a sequel!Good job guys! Rated 5 out of5 byEHinSF fromAnother great strategy/time management game I've now played 13 levels and gotten 3 stars on them all, but it wasn't easy. This game is my third favorite game by this developer behind Adelentado and Roads of Rome, and to compare, is probably most like Roads of Rome. Help Ingolf and his viking buddies conquer challenges on each level to break the curse of the ring. Build farms for food, sawmills for wood, houses to collect rent, and get help from the druid along the way.
I'll only play the timed version because I like the challenge of the game. There are video walkthroughs to help posted on youtube. A simple way to say this is if you like the other time management games this developer makes, you'll love this one.
